The Barton Community College softball team swept the conference weekly honors as freshmen Brittany Wood and Madison Didion were named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week. The duo helped the Cougars get off to a 6-1 start owning victories against two nationally ranked teams.
Wood had one of the most impressive collegiate debuts in recent Barton Softball history with an opening day 5-of-7 at the plate on five home runs with eleven runs batted in powering the Cougars to an opening day sweep. The freshman from South Jordan, Utah, then helped Barton return home with four more victories during the weekend’s Midland College Spring Classic with two wins over ranked opponents finishing the week batting .480 driving in nineteen runs while adding three doubles to her stat line.
Didion also had quite the start to her collegiate career going 3-1 in the center circle striking out thirty-two batters in just shy of twenty-three innings of work. The freshman from Montesano, Washington, recorded eighteen of the strikeouts against ranked opponents, including a ten strikeout four hit shutout of No. 15 ranked Midland College on their home turf.
Barton is currently in Oklahoma taking care of the Bacone College junior varsity squad on Wednesday sweeping the doubleheader 7-0 and 12-2. Today the 8-1 Cougars and will take on Oklahoma Wesleyan University JV in another doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. Following a Tuesday contest at Bethany College JV, the Cougars will have a pair of home dates against Brown Mackie College and Cowley College on February 25 and 28 respectively.
