Velazquez to Continue Career at McPherson

McPherson, Kan. – McPherson College women’s soccer has announced the signing of Bereniz Velazquez, a center midfielder from California.

“We are very pleased to welcome Bereniz to the McPherson family,” said Coach Quint.  “She is a very experienced and technical midfielder who will strengthen us in the middle of the park.  We look for good things from her.”

Velazquez is a transfer student from Orange, California.  She played high school soccer for Coach Jim Gross and Tustin High School, earning four letters.  The junior earned a variety of honors while at Tustin High.  Velazquez was named the Offensive Player of the Year in 2007, Midfielder of the Year in 2008 and 2009, and Most Valuable Player in 2010; she made First Team All Centery League in 2009 and 2010.

While at Santa Ana, Velazquez was the captain for Coach Jaymie Baquero and the Dons.  She has also been a member of Tustin United, a club team, and Coach Scott Mazuria.

Bereniz is the daughter of Leo and Maria Velazquez and will major in kinesiology at McPherson.
