The Barton Community College baseball team took care of Brown Mackie College Wednesday in Salina winning 11-0 in seven innings. Breaking open the game with four second inning runs, the Cougars pounded fifteen hits in eclipsing the ten hit mark for the seventh straight game. The non-conference victory improves Barton to 23-20 on the season while dropping the Lions to 7-32. Returning to conference action this weekend, the fourth place 13-11 Cougars have worked themselves into a position for a top four spot for the playoffs but first have to turn attention to the 17-26 and 10-14 seventh place Beavers of Pratt Community College. Weather permitting the four game weekend series’ first pitch in Pratt will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Leadoff batter Evan McDonald set the table for the Cougars all night going 4-for-4 including a stolen base. Following McDonald in the lineup Trevor Turner went 2-for-5 while Lance White solidified the middle going 2-for-3 with a double and Dylan Kuhn anchored the lineup with a 2-for-4 two RBI performance with both hits being left field doubles.
Four Cougar pitchers limited the Lions to four hits and four strikeouts as Ryan McClure picked up his first collegiate victory improving to 1-0 on the season going 3.0 innings accounting for the four strikeouts while giving up a lone hit.
