STERLING, KAN. – Chelsey Riffel (FR/Sterling, Kan.)’s 10 kill performance against Bethel College jumpstarted the Lady Warriors’ offense on Wednesday, en route to a 3-0 (25-20,25-14,25-15) sweep of the Threshers.
Set 1:
Sterling’s offense found their groove early against the Threshers, jumping out to an early 9-5 lead. Bethel rallied back to keep things close by playing excellent defense at the net, collecting 6 total blocks in the first set alone. Despite hitting into a half of dozen blocks, Sterling would pull out the set one win 20-25.
Set 2:
Sterling showed off their offense against the Threshers in set two on a 10-1 run, including nine straight points, to jump out to a commanding 17-5 lead. The nine point swing was led by Hayley Ray (SR/Derby, Kan.) and Riffel who each had three kills. The hits continue to fall for Sterling as the Lady Warriors would go on to take set two 25-14.
Set 3:
Riffel’s excellent night was capped off during the third set when she rattled of five consecutive service aces to break away from the Threshers for a 21-10 lead. Riffel add three more kills in the third set to finish off Bethel 25-15 to complete the 3-0 sweep.
Chelsey Riffel led the team in kills with 10, Hayley Ray, Makenzie Cork (FR/Safford, Ariz.), and Rachel Johnson (SR/Larkspur, Colo.) each had superb nights at the net with nine kills apiece. Defensively, Mykel Riedl led the team with 10 digs in the match.
Sterling (15-7, 6-4) continues their on October 14th in Hillsboro when they take on the Tabor College Bluejays at 7:00.
