The Lady ‘Dogs had a tough time putting the ball on the floor, resulting in a three-set loss. The defense for Sterling was on point as they took down McPherson College on Monday night. Mac is now 3-12 on the year and 0-5 in the KCAC; the squad is in the middle of a nine-game drought.
The opening set was all Warriors as McPherson struggled to string points together; SC took the set 25-12. In the second, Mac had a comeback brewing in the late stages but had too far to travel, losing 25-22. The third set was much more even and it looked like the Bulldogs were going to make a push for a fourth set. Unfortunately, Sterling scored just enough to squeak out the win 25-22.
McPherson was led in kills by freshmen Leia Seiler and Lexi Kite; each tabbed eight kills. Kite also logged three service aces. Seiler, in her first extended action on varsity, hit a team-high .318, eight kills on 22 swings and one error.
Rhianna Smith led the MC setters in assists with her 12. Maci Schlehuber logged 10 assists. Both setters had five digs and one service error.
Not a single Mac player recorded double-digit digs as Sterling hit .309 for the match.
It’s another short break for the Lady ‘Dogs as they travel to Hillsboro, Kansas for a 7:00 p.m. (CT) contest with the Tabor College Blue Jays on Wednesday.
