Surrendering consecutive second half goals, the Barton Community College men’s soccer team responded within the next minute to break a 3-all tie enroute to a 7-3 victory Wednesday at the Cougar Soccer Complex over Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa.   Barton tacked on three more goals in a matter of ten minutes securing the win improving to 5-0 on the season while dropping the Mavericks to 3-3.  The Cougars travel to Arkansas City on Saturday for an early season big matchup against Cowley College beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Renan Sousa, the reigning conference player of the week, scored two goals and two assists on the day including the game winning dime with twenty-eight minutes left in the contest.  Sousa got things rolling for the Cougars just fourteen minutes into the contest blasting a twenty-five yard strike to the top 90 off Sergio Ribeiro‘s cross.

The Mavericks tied the contest ten minutes later as Edgar Ramos’ header from Ignaciao Barboza’s free kick slid under the crossbar over Barton keeper Bruce Turner.  Nine minutes later the Cougars regained the lead on Vinicius Monteiro‘s first goal of the season finishing off Jiro Barriga Toyama‘s thru ball for his fourth assist of the season.

Lucas Alves picked up his first of two second half goals just over seven minutes into the second frame putting away Sousa’s first assist.  NOC-Tonkawa would strike back three minutes later as Turner got caught up in traffic within the box.  Angel Torres was able to escape the congestion getting a touch over to Irvin Ponce to draw the Mavericks to within one.  Five minutes later Felix Mora tied the contest sticking back the rebound of a Maverick deflected shot.

The tied score rejuvenated the Cougars back into attack mode and within one minute later Sousa broke down the defense and sent a cross to Orel Taib for a clutch header for his first goal of the season and eventual game winner.

Barton would later put the game away scoring three goals in a matter of seven minutes.  Sousa hammered home his second goal of the game off of Juan Barron‘s missed shot at the seventeen minute mark then four minutes later Alves netted his second of the day, again from the foot of Barron in finding Alves on the far post.  Chris Docherty set up the final nail in the Mavericks coffin working down the defensive right flank and sending a pin point thru ball to the foot of Toyama with 10:07 left to play.
