(macbulldogs.com) — DeAndre Henson (Aberdeen, Md., Cloud County CC) scored 18 points to lead three Bulldogs in double figures, but the McPherson College men’s basketball team fell to Baker University, 85-73, in the nonconference finale for both schools Saturday afternoon at the Collins Center.
The Bulldogs (7-9) struck first on a shot by Henson at the 19:07 left in the first half. The teams traded the next three baskets with Clae Martin tying the score at 5-5 with a 3-pointer a short time later. From there, the Wildcats (6-6) went on an 11-1 run capped by another Martin 3-pointer to lead by 10 at 16-6 with 14:11 remaining.
McPherson slowly chipped away at the lead over the next 10 minutes, finally drawing even at 31 on a basket by Aaron Bachura (Wilsey, Kan., Council Grove HS) with 3:04 on the clock. Baker responded with three straight 3-pointers – one each by Tyrome Parker, Tyree Peter and Martin – to lead 40-31 with 1:41 left in the half. Chris Crook (Oklahoma City, Okla., Millwood HS) hit a pair of shots down the stretch as the Bulldogs were able to cut the deficit back to six as Baker led 41-35 at the break.
