The McPherson College volleyball team took down cross-town rival Central Christian College on Tuesday night 3-0; winning 25-20, 25-23, 25-23. Mac is now 2-0 in the 2015 season.
The opening set of the night was tight throughout with McPherson staying out in front most of the way. The two teams hit 20 at the same time and a five-point rally by the Bulldogs gave them the 25-20 triumph.
The Lady ‘Dogs jumped out to a commanding 7-1 lead in the second set and appeared to be cruising to an easy victory. Central Christian came back in a big way and narrowly took the lead multiple times. MC wasn’t about to give up the set and won 25-23 to go up 2-0.
What turned out to be the final set of the evening was close all the way through with just a few points separating the two teams. CCC held a slim lead most of the way but a strong Bulldog volleyball squad forced their way past the Tigers to the 25-23 win.
Jessica Sanders was a beast in the middle and Lexi Kite racked up the kills on the outside; each totaled 11 kills in the three-set match. Sanders added three assisted blocks to give her a team-high 12.5 points. Also logging 12.5 points was Taryn Lee who had eight kills, three assisted blocks, and one solo block.
Maci Schlehuber took the assist title on Tuesday with her 16 assists. Rhianna Smith was right behind with 13 and added 11 digs to her night.
The libero for Mac, Emily Warner, once again led the squad in digs with her 15.
McPherson will get a few days of rest before their next contest. The ‘Dogs take on Bethany College at home on September 2nd with JV at 5:30 p.m. (CT) and varsity starting at 7:00
