It was an odd feeling for the Lady Bulldogs on Wednesday night as they lost for the first time in nearly three weeks. MC lost to No. 21 Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Oklahoma, moving them to 8-5 on the year and 4-2 in the KCAC.
The Lady Eagles came out firing in the opening minutes taking multiple shots and forcing a few corners. The Bulldog D held on until the 24th minute as OKWU broke the scoring silence. From then on, however, it was McPherson that did the attacking; the ‘Dogs pushed forward and were awarded a few corner kicks but were not able to convert. The two teams went into the half with the score at 1-0 in favor of the home team.
In the second, the Eagles added another goal in the 58th minute. Trailing 2-0, Mac again pushed forward, unfortunately Oklahoma Wesleyan would use a counter attack to earn their third goal. A couple minutes later and the score sat at 4-0. With just a few left, OKWU scored the final goal, bringing the final to 5-0.
Mac took eight shots in the match with just one finding the frame. Breelyn Petty attempted a team-high three shots and was followed by Heather Diamond who had two. Rhea Vale was responsible for the team’s lone shot on goal.
Sheryl Evans recorded six saves in her 90 minutes in frame.
MC’s week doesn’t get any easier as they take on KCAC No. 2 Ottawa University at home this Saturday. It will be the team’s senior day; McPherson has six seniors on the roster.
