It was a fierce competition between the two McPherson county institutions as the Bulldogs and Swedes had a four-set battle on Wednesday night. In the end, Bethany College was able to overthrow Mac 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21)
The first set opened with the Lady Swedes taking control midway through and then they held off a late MC surge to win 25-20.
The second was the complete inverse with McPherson having the lead and then taking the set 25-20.
In the third set, the ‘Dogs led 7-1 but a 9-2 run by BC gave the Swedes the momentum which they used to out lean Mac, winning 25-23.
Set number four was another tight contest with the two clubs trading leads multiple times. Bethany scored five of the last seven to take the set and match 25-21 and 3-1, respectively.
Taryn Lee posted an incredible 24 kills on the night, setting a new career record; the number puts her second on the all-time MC list. Lee took 38 swings and had just three errors for a .553 kill percentage; she also added in seven block assists for a total of 27.5 points.
Rhianna Smith assisted for a number of Lee’s kills and also had a career high night with her 24 assists. Maci Schlehuber tallied 11 assists and also recorded 11 digs.
Leading the dig department was libero Emily Warner who had 27 in the match.
Mac’s next contest will come this Saturday in the LaQuinta-KWU Volleyball Invitational. The team will play four matches in two days beginning with Montana Tech on September 5th at 12:00 p.m. (CT) Live video of the tournament can be found here.
