Trailing by four strokes heading into Friday’s final round of the sixth KJCCC meet of the season, the Barton Community College women’s golf team rallied to win by four strokes flip-flopping the scoreboard in capturing the final conference meet of the season.   The Lady Cougars bettered the field by eight strokes during the final nine holes to win their second straight conference meet tying Dodge City Community College in the final standings with three wins each during the season.   As all the competitors fought through two days of extreme wind conditions at Great Bend’s StoneRidge Country Club Golf Course, Barton finished with a combined 532 while the Conquistadors carded a 536 with each of the two having four players in the Top-10 individual standings.  Coffeyville Community College, who did not field a complete team, completed the individual standings placing all three of their Red Ravens into the Top-10.

The share of the conference title secured Barton’s fourth straight KJCCC Championship while also sharing the esteem with the Conqs in two of the past four seasons.   The Lady Cougars will look to fend off Dodge City for their fourth straight Region VI Championships as the field reassembles in Hutchinson April 22-23 at Carey Park Golf Course.

Orakorn Thirayatorn of Dodge City won individualist honors winning the meet by three strokes.  Firing a remarkable 5-over par 76 opening round, Thirayatorn held off a charge from the field carding a final 46 for the winning 15-over par 122 for the three stroke victory.

Leeseo Park put together a consistent two days of golf with an 83 and 46 moving up one spot into a three-way tie for second at 125.   The Conqs’ Rachanok Rahulpan recorded 80 and 45 rounds while Julia Dierker led the Red Raven squad firing a final round second best score of 41 to jump from fourth into the second place tie.

Incurring multiple penalty strokes in closing the opening round with an 88, Peerada Piddon shot a blistering 2-over par 38 falling one stroke shy of joining the three player log jam for second.

Carding opening 91 rounds, Cheyenne Musser broke away from Red Raven teammate Karah Bassett firing a 44 to nab the sixth spot while Bassett slipped to the three-way tie for seventh at 142.   Joining Bassett were the No. 3 and 4 players from Barton in Mackenzie Fabrizius and Lea Clubb as each carded opposite type of rounds in the two-day tournament.   Clubb, who opened with a solid 92, struggled down the stretch on the final three holes finishing with a 50 while Fabrizius shook off a tough 96 first day closing with a 46.

Two Conquistadors grabbed the final two spots tying for the tenth slot at 146.  Jacqueline Honings put together rounds of 95 and 51 while Tiara Diaz blew away the memory of Friday’s 104 with a third best final round of 42.

Bailey Gage rounded out the Lady Cougar team with a solid opening 93 but experienced a tough 56 final round to finish at 149 and three strokes out of the Top-10.
