Gay, Granger earn wins in PBR Touring Pro Division

PUEBLO, Colo. – Gage Gay (Staley, North Carolina) came out on top at the Professional Bull Riders’ (PBR) Thunder on Hooves Touring Pro Division (TPD) event in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, last weekend.

Gay picked up 87 points in Round 1 before putting up a 91.5-point effort in the championship round, the highest score of the event. It was his second TPD victory of the 2015 season, and he now sits 23rd in the PBR world standings after earning 60 world points. Gay also took home $7,308.27 in earnings.

Mike Lee (Decatur, Texas) placed second and third in the event with two entries. Based on TPD rules, a bull rider may enter a TPD as many times as he chooses. Some riders have been known to enter two, or even three times.

With his first entry, Lee had rides of 86 and 90.5 points. He earned 30 points for the world standings along with $4,732.39 for second place. In third place, Lee covered both bulls for scores of 84 and 91 points. With that entry, he earned 20 world points and $3,594.23.

Stetson Lawrence (Williston, North Dakota) placed fourth in Thief River Falls with an 84-point ride in Round 1 along with the fourth 90-point ride in the championship round, a 90.5-point effort. Lawrence earned $2,216.45 along with 15 points toward the world standings.

Wyatt Gregg (Fort Pierre, South Dakota) and Cody Nance (Paris, Tennessee) tied for fifth place with an 89-point ride each in Round 1. The pair each took home $2,096.63 along with 7.5 world points apiece.

On Friday, July 17, at the Mesa County Fair during the Grand Junction, Colorado, TPD, Justin Granger (Tuba City, Arizona) picked up the victory with an 86.5-point ride on his second entry of the evening. He earned 60 points toward the world standings and a paycheck of $3,712.39.

Chase Robbins, from Marsing, Idaho, tallied 85.5 points in Round 1 to take second place for $2,670.22 and 30 world points.

Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla, Washington) finished third with 84.5 points in the championship round. He made it to the final round of the competition based on his buckoff time in Round 1. He earned 20 world points and $1,966.04. Granger’s other entry took fourth place off an 81-point ride in Round 1. He earned 15 world points and $1,318.20 in earnings.

Chris Ban (Red Mesa, Arizona) finished in fifth place with a 78.5-point ride, to earn 10 world points along with $833.73.

The Touring Pro Division will have two stops this coming weekend. On Saturday, July 25, at the Livingston Classic TPD event in Livingston, Montana, such riders as Gay, Dakota Louis (Browning, Montana) and Aaron Roy (Asquith, Saskatchewan) are expected to ride.

The San Antonio TPD event at Cowboys Dance Hall, will welcome Ralph Benson (Adkins, Texas), Ouncie Mitchell (Fresno, Texas) and Jorge Valdivezo (Chihuahua, Mexico) for the one-day event on July 25.

Also on tap this weekend, the BlueDEF Velocity Tour Second Annual Kasey Hayes & Stormy Wing Invitational will be held at the Henry C. Hitch Pioneer Arena in Guymon, Oklahoma, on July 25. Along with Hayes and Wing, riders Reese Cates (El Dorado, Arkansas), J.W. Harris (May, Texas) and Kaique Pacheco (Itatiba, Brazil) will be competing.
