Barton Community College’s Dequandre Dentmond of the men’s basketball team has been named the Jayhawk Conference Division I Co-Player of the Week for his performances last week as the Cougars split a pair of games over the weekend in the Best Western Booster Club Thanksgiving Classic.  Dentmond shares the week five conference honor with Niem Stevenson of Seward County Community College.

Dentmond had his second consecutive solid week for the Cougars grabbing double-figure rebounds one night then followed with a career high scoring performance the next night.   In Friday night’s loss to Northwest Kansas Technical College, Dentmond was efficient from the floor in going 4-of-7 while hauling down eleven boards almost reaching double-digits just on the defensive end of the floor by grabbing nine defensive rebounds.   In Saturday’s victory over Brown Mackie College, Dentmond scored six early points helping the Cougars grab an early ten point control then tacked on eleven second half points finishing with a career high twenty-four points ensuring Barton’s runaway fourteen point victory.  Averaging 16 points and 8.5 rebounds in the two games, Dentmond finished a solid 14-of-23 from the field for just shy of 61%.

The 8-3 Cougars embark on a two-game road stretch to open up conference play beginning Wednesday traveling to Pratt Community College for an 8:00 p.m. contest before heading to El Dorado on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off at Butler Community College.
