MCPHERSON, KAN. – The Warriors traveled up to McPherson, Kan. on Wednesday for their final non-conference match up of the season against the Central Christian Tigers.
Game 1:
Sterling took a 2-0 lead on an Andrew Dorado (JR/West Covina, CA) sac fly to center field and a Clay Eagleton (JR/Chico, CA) double to the right-center field gap in the top of the second. An inning later, Jake Morgan (JR/Salt Lake City, UT) extended the Warriors’ lead to three with a solo-shot to right field.
The Tigers answered back in the bottom half of the third when they score two runs to make it a one run advantage for Sterling.
The Warriors held their ground, looking to take game one 3-2 but Central Christian fought back in the bottom half of the seventh to tie the game up 3-3 to force extra innings.
The 3-3 stalemate continued until the top of the ninth when the Warriors’ offense exploded for five runs, including a grand slam off the bat of Jordy Hart (SR/Cedar Valley, UT), to put themselves back in the driver’s seat 8-3.
Central Christian threatened in the bottom of the ninth but a heads up play to nail the runner at third for the final out sealed the win for Sterling, 8-3.
Game 2:
Sterling’s offense erupted in game two, putting together 16 runs through the first four innings of play to take a 16-1 lead over Central Christian.
The Warriors biggest inning came in the top of the second when Sterling scored eight runs off of five hits, including a two-run home run from Andrew Dorado and a three-run home run from Jake Morgan, to take a 9-1 lead.
Sterling continued to show off their power over the next two innings when Jordan Espino (JR/Buena Park, CA) launched a two-run shot to left field in the top of the third and when Aaron Stubblefield (JR/Kansas City, MO) blasted his third home run of the season, a grand slam to left-center field, to extend Sterling’s lead 16-1.
Sterling added four more runs in the top of the seventh to go on to defeat the Tigers 20-1.
Sterling (40-11, 17-7) finish up their season when they take on the Ottawa University Braves this Friday and Saturday. The Warriors will host the Braves this Friday for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm and will travel to Ottawa on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
