The Barton Community College softball team improved to 8-0 on the season with double-digit margin victories Friday at Brown Mackie College. The Lady Cougars scored ten unanswered to take game one 11-1 then scored in all but one inning of the nightcap to capture a six inning 14-2 victory.  Barton will again take to the road for their next game traveling to Fort Scott Community College for a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.  The Lady Cougars next home game will be the following day on Thursday hosting the junior varsity squad from Sterling College in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader at Cougar Field.

Barton took it to the Lions scoring six runs in the first three innings to lead 6-1.  Brown Mackie got their lone run in the first inning on two hits and two walks as Taylor Bugner settled in after the first to shut down the Lions bats.  Working the full seven innings, the Garden Plain freshman limited Brown Mackie to only one additional hit striking out five while allowing only two more walks the final six innings improving to 2-0 on the season.

Holly Posegate, who would bat .777 to the Lady Cougars in the doubleheader, went 4-for-5 in game one hitting her third and fourth doubles of the season in driving home three runs.  Brianna Ward also had a solid game with a double and three RBI on her 3-for-4 effort.  Kylie Everill had two hits in her four at-bats to drive in two while Erica Harper and Bailey Hensley each drove in one.

The Lady Cougars pounded out a season high eighteen hits in the nightcap racing out to 6-0 lead through three innings.  The Lions managed to get two across on Barton starter Holly Posegate with two singles and an error to begin the fourth.  Just like Bugner in the first game, the one inning was the lone down spot for Posegate as the Colorado freshman only allowed one additional hit pitching the complete six innings walking one while striking out four in improving to 3-0 on the season.

Five players had multi-hit games led by the 4-for-4 performance from Hensley, the reigning KJCCC Player of the Week.  Hensley drove home five runs in game including hitting her team leading fourth homerun.  Posegate’s 3-for-4 three RBI effort also included her third homerun of the season while Ward also got three hits driving in one in her five at-bats.  Picking up her first hit of the season, Samantha White scored three times as Caitlyn Garcia drove in three runs in following White in the lineup.
