Trailing for only thirty-two seconds Friday night at the Barton Gym, the Barton Community College men’s basketball team took care of business going on to an 86-69 victory over Hesston College at the Barton Gym. Leading by only three with six minutes left in the first half, the Cougars closed out the half on a 17-5 stretch then went on a 13-0 run midway through the second half in coasting to its seventh straight victory. Improving to 7-2 on the season, Barton will have a week off from competition before hosting the Best Western Booster Club Classic Thanksgiving Classic on November 27-28.
Dequandre Dentmond‘s first career double-double led five Cougars in double figures going 8-for-8 from the field. The freshman from Lansing, Michigan, posted career high totals with his nineteen point fifteen rebound performance leading a 55-30 rebound domination by the Cougars. Scoring in double figures for the fourth straight game and sixth of his seven games, Keith Mack fell one point shy of tying a career high with eighteen points with a 7-of-8 shooting from the charity stripe. Ezekiel Charles added fourteen while Tyrone Acuff added twelve off the bench and point guard Derek Dorn rounding out the scoring highlights with eleven. John Barbee led the nineteen Cougar assists with four while Mack led the team with three steals.
Hesston had three players reaching double figures paced by Ty Jordan’s nineteen. After scoring thirteen first half points, Grant Gullett was held to only five additional in the second half to finish with eighteen. Jontray Harris added thirteen while leading the rebounding with eight and tying Jordan for team high assist honors with three each.
