Cowley College board of trustees have agreed to add wrestling in 2017. It is hopes the at the addition of wrestling will increase enrollment. The athletic director Shane Larson had also looked into several other athletic programs including bowling, football, hockey ad lacrosse but wrestling had the lowest startup cost for the college and as well as having several wrestlers in the area. There is grant money available to help organizations to start new wrestling programs. Larson said that the first priority will be the hiring of a coach and an assistant, with the hopes of having those positions filled by January or February. Winfield and Arkansas City High Schools both have wrestling programs that could possible provide members to the newly formed team.
