Nearly 50 fouls were called in the 90-minute “Battle for McPherson” as the McPherson College and Central Christian College teams left it all on the field.  After the intense match, the Bulldogs walked away with a 2-1 victory, moving them to 3-5 on the season.

“Coach Hoxie certainly did a great job preparing his team to play,” said Head MC Coach Doug Quint.  “We got everything from them tonight.  Our team had some good moments and created some nice chances.  Our composure just needs to improve.”

It was a very aggressive match as nearly 50 fouls were called on the two clubs.  McPherson appeared to be on the attacking side of the ball from the beginning, doubling Central’s first half shots.  After 45 minutes of play, 18 fouls, 18 shots, seven saves and zero goals were recorded, sending the teams into the break all square at 0-0.

After attacking the goal in the opening minutes of the second, the ‘Dogs were awarded a penalty kick as a handball call was made within Central’s box.  Greg Roller knocked it through to give MC the lead with 36 minutes to play.  Very shortly thereafter, CCC was giving a PK of their own on a Mac handball but the shot went high, keeping the score at 1-0.  The ‘Dogs doubled their lead as a Nick Torres blocked shot was hit home by Morgan Quintana in the 72nd minute.  Central made it a game again as they converted a penalty kick with less than 10 to play.  The Tigers tried to score the equalizer but were shut down by the MC defense as Mac held on for the 2-1 win.

A total of 23 shots were taken by MC with 12 going on target.  Torres had a team-high five shots with three on goal.  Brayam De La Cruz also tallied three shots on target and took three total.

Aaron Parrott recorded the win for the Bulldogs in goal.  The junior tallied five saves in his 90 minutes.

The KCAC season starts with a bang for McPherson as they host Kansas Wesleyan University on Saturday the 3rd at 3:00 p.m. (CT).  KWU is the team that the Bulldogs beat last year in the conference tournament finals to claim their undisputed KCAC Championship.
