Our Healthy Habits recipe segments will focus this month on the best way to use different Midwest apple varieties. On Sept. 3, Susan Mills-Gray talked about apple varieties that preserve well.
Yield: 5 (8-ounce) jars
Ingredients:
- 4 cups chopped, cored, peeled apples
- 4 cups chopped, cored, peeled pears
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 (1.59-ounce) pouch freezer jam pectin
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar
