The Harvey County Farmers market is about to start its 38th season in Newton! Some of you will remember that first market back in 1983 that brought growers and bakers together to sell their locally grown and made goods to local residents. We will begin on Saturday, May 22. Our location has changed. The new location is 301 North Main in Newton. We are next to Breadbasket restaurant and The Mill on the West side of Main street! The market is open from 8:00 AM until noon.

The farmers market is also accepting credit, debit and EBT/SNAP.

Shopping at a farmers’ market can be a wonderful family experience but in addition to being fun it can also be good for you and your community. Some of the reasons include:

*It’s freshly picked!
*There is a variety of locally grown crops picked at the peak of quality and freshness often with the morning dew still on the sweet corn and greens.
*You can meet the farmer who grew the crops and they can tell you the best ways to preserve or prepare the produce that you just bought.
*You can often save money especially on naturally raised produce.
*Farmers’ markets provide a livelihood for many local farmers who might not otherwise be farming.
*They give you an opportunity to share in the local crop diversity as it changes with the progression of the seasons and visit with your neighbors at the same time.
*Buying at the Harvey County Farmers’ Market means you can have fresh produce that you just can’t find in grocery stores.

Hope to see you at the market this season! Remember that we open at 8:00 AM on Saturday May 22. The midweek market will be announced at a later date!
