Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is pleased to announce the summer youth camps for kids ages seven through twelve on Wednesdays from June 14 – 28, 2017 and July 5 -12, 2017.
For some summer fun, reserve your child in the Tallgrass Prairie Wranglers Youth Day Camps. The day camp is free, but reservations are required to assure adequate supplies; space is limited to fifteen participants each day. Program runs five consecutive Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a different thematic program each day. Call the rangers at 620-273-8494 (then hit 0) to make your free reservation.
The program is filled with fun and educational activities ranging from tallgrass prairie adventures, to dressing up in appropriate 1880s historic clothing and doing chores. Kids will learn about the natural and cultural resources of the tallgrass prairie, while also experiencing life on a ranch through typical activities. Activities include a hike along one of the many natural springs and seeps on the preserve, a bus ride through the bison pasture, fun educational prairie games, and typical ranch chores of doing laundry, cleaning barn stalls, dusting the historic home and more. Kids should wear clothing suitable for getting dirty, closed toed shoes, and use insect repellent and sun screen.
