UNMASK THE SCIENCE OF SUPERPOWERS IN HALL OF HEROES NATIONAL TRAVELING
EXHIBIT AT EXPLORATION PLACE
(WICHITA, KAN.) (Monday, May 15, 2017) — Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap into imaginations in a single bound – yes, it’s Hall of Heroes – the latest national traveling exhibit opening at Exploration Place on Saturday, May 20.
Hall of Heroes will take guests on an interactive journey to discovering their own superpowers while learning how beloved heroes use Powers of the Body, Powers of the Mind, Mastery, Gadgets, and the Elements. The exhibit also includes memorabilia from major motion pictures and TV shows, including the George Barris 1966 Batmobile Experience.
Events and education programs assembled around Hall of Heroes will ensure visitors have a super experience – from a new dome theater film, to summer camps and everything in between.
These special events and programs include:
- Free Members’ Night, Friday, May 19, 6 – 8:30 p.m.
Exploration Place members will experience this exhibit and see the new dome theater film Supervolcanoes at this exclusive, members-only event. Members will save 20% in the Explore Store. Free for members.
- Hall of Heroes Opening Weekend, Saturday, May 20 and Sunday, May 21
Visitors will take part in special activities that reveal their superpowers. Included in general museum admission, free for members.
- Summer Camp and TinkerTech Summer Edventures, start May 30

- Birthday Party Theme, Superpowered Birthday, for ages 4 – 11
It’s a bird, it’s a plane – it’s a birthday kid! Party goers will celebrate iconic heroes as they design a cape, develop an ooze to take down villains, and prepare for battle with the perfect aim. - Live Science Show, Super STEMTACULAR! June 1- 30, Oct. 1 – 31, Nov. 1 – 30
Exploration Place’s very own super science hero, STEMtacular will show guests the power of science, technology, engineering and math, all providing for a super-STEM experience. Located in the Kemper Creative Learning Studio. Included in general museum admission, free for members.
- Riverfest Discount Days, Friday, June 2 – Saturday, June 10, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Visitors will get $5 exhibit admission and $2.50 dome theater admission when they wear a Riverfest button.
- Breakfast of Heroes, Saturday, June 10, 10 -11:30 a.m.
Guests will fuel up with a tasty breakfast then take on the traveling exhibit, Hall of Heroes. They can dress as their favorite hero and meet other famous heroes while taking part in special activities that require super strength including an obstacle course. - Supervolcanoes, Dome Theater Film opening Saturday, June 17
Viewers will see recreations of giant volcano eruptions that were essential to shaping the world over 74,000 years ago. The film examines cataclysmic supervolcanoes from the past, as well as North America’s very own supervolcano, Yellowstone National Park. Narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch. No general admission needed.Dome prices apply.
- Kids Night Out! Friday, July 7, 7 – 11p.m.
Children entering grades 1 through 5 will engineer ways to defeat villains, concoct creative escapes and meet resident super science hero at Exploration Place, STEMtacular. - Capes and Cocktails, summer adults-only event, Friday, August 11, 7 – 10 p.m.
Hall of Heroes isn’t just for kids! Adults can test their superpowers as they take part in special activities, see how alcohol can be controlled and get spectacular evening access to Hall of Heroes. For ages 21 and older. Prices: $20 for members, $25 for nonmembers.
Hall of Heroes is produced by Stage Nine Exhibitions. This exhibit is open at Exploration Place through Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, and is included in general museum admission, free for members.
