There was little the Barton Community College women’s basketball team could do Monday evening at the Barton Gym as hot shooting No. 8 ranked Seward County Community College used a huge first half to cruise to the 86-52 conference win.  The Lady Saints shot an unbelievable seventy-four percent from the field including connecting on 7-of-12 in building a 55-25 halftime lead.  Barton battled in second half action but Seward County never laid off the peddle for the thirty-four point win.  Barton’s third straight loss drops the Lady Cougars to 1-3 in the Jayhawk and 11-5 overall while Seward County remains unblemished in the conference at 4-0 improving to 16-1 overall.   The schedule doesn’t get any easier as Barton will play its fifth game in ten days as the No. 2 ranked Hutchinson Blue Dragons come to the Barton Gym on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. contest.

Phikala Anthony‘s string of three straight double-doubles came to an end Monday but the sophomore still led the Lady Cougars as the lone double digit scorer working for fourteen points to go along with tying three others with a team high four rebounds.  Brandi Williams and Indiah Cauley joined Anthony for the team high rebound honor while freshman Dominique Baker dished out five dimes and joined Anthony with a team high two steals.

Seward placed five players in double digits led by Rebekah Hatchard’s twenty-one.  The Lady Saints had a pair of sixteen point performances by Tamara Seda and Daniela Galindo with Kyndal Davis close behind with fifteen followed by Brooklyn Artis’ ten points.   Seda and Axelle Bernard shared team high rebound honors with five each while Davis led with five assists and three steals.
