On Saturday, June 18 at 10:00 a.m., Cindy Hogan will present a program on beekeeping at the Rice County Historical Society’s Coronado Quivira Museum. Mrs. Hogan is a retired school psychologist who has kept bees since 2003. According to Mrs. Hogan, what started out as a desire to have access to free honey turned into a true fascination of these amazing insects and opened the door to other avenues, such as candle making, soap making, and infusing honey. She enjoys sharing her knowledge of bees with all ages of classrooms, 4 H groups, as well as various adult groups. Mrs. Hogan has mentored others in the joys and frustrations of beekeeping. She and her husband Scott Hogan live on a lovely small ranch where they raise alpacas, Nigerian dairy goats, & chickens, and love an assortment of cats, and our dog, Harley.
Mrs. Hogan’s beekeeping program complements The Paly Foundation’s exhibit, “Pollinators – Little Helpers, Big Results,” which is on display at the Coronado Quivira Museum. Bees are important pollinators. They are part of a world of pollinators! “Pollinators” explores the diversity of pollinators and how all contribute to our own quality of life by helping to provide good food, gorgeous surroundings, medicines — even clothing!
The Coronado Quivira Museum is located at 105 West Lyon, Lyons, Kansas. It is open Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. For additional information call (620) 257-3941 or go to www.cqmuseum.org.
