Hutchinson, KS – JoAnn Rivera, RN, CCRN, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, has been nominated for the Health Care Worker of the Year Award, a designation presented annually by the Kansas Hospital Association (KHA).

The winner will be announced at the KHA Investiture and Awards luncheon which is scheduled for November 13 in Overland Park as a part of the organization’s annual meeting.

Rivera joined Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in 1990 and has progressed through several positions before assuming her current position as Charge Nurse in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

She was elected to the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center Nursing Hall of Fame earlier this year.

Rivera was nominated for the award by Julie Ward, RN, MSN, CENP, Vice President of Patient Care Services at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.

In her nominating statement, Ward termed Rivera an “advocate for patients and their families.”

“JoAnn leads by example with a positive attitude, a can-do spirit and a willingness to learn, grow and change,” Ward said.

Rivera spoke highly of the healthcare professionals who make up her work group.

“I have the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of nurses that make up a great team that works 24/7 to provide the highest quality care to our patients and comfort to their families,” Rivera said. “Hutchinson Regional Medical Center is a special place to work in that patient care is a top priority.”

Kevin Miller, F.A.C.H.E., President and CEO of Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System, said Rivera’s nomination is a well deserved honor for an outstanding employee.

“JoAnn will stand alongside her contemporaries from across the state, representing hospitals large and small, as one of the best in her field of expertise,” Miller said. “Her nomination is further affirmation of the quality of professionals who are employed at Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System.”

“JoAnn is an invaluable member of our healthcare family and goes the extra mile every day in providing medical care to our patients and moral support to their families,” Miller continued.

Rivera will be joined by 11 other nominees from throughout Kansas at the awards luncheon. Three of the dozen nominees will receive $500 cash awards.

Hutchinson Regional Medical Center is a member of the Hutchinson Regional Healthcare System. Other members include Health-E-Quip, Horizons Mental Health Center, Hospice and HomeCare of Reno County, Ray E. Dillon Living Center and the Hutchinson Regional Medical Foundation.
