Many Kansans have memories of a petting zoo – specifically at the Kansas State Fair – petting the friendly farm animals with one hand and holding a sweaty cup of root beer in the other.
Hedrick Exotic Animal Farm, owned by Joe and Sondra Hedrick, is to thank for these fond memories. Since the early 1980s, they have been sharing the gift of animals with Kansans.
The Hedrick farm, which is located at 7910 N. Roy L. Smith Road in Nickerson, will be holding a Baby Animal Festival on Saturday, May 13.
The farm contains more than 30 species of animals, including zebras, giraffes, kangaroos and porcupines – just to name a few.
This year’s event will mark the second Baby Animal Festival held at the Hedrick farm. The owners are hoping to make this a yearly occurrence, as the festival was well-received the first time around.
There is something for everyone at the festival, regardless of age. It will include live music, food trucks, and a baby animal selfie station. There will be a petting area, where food can be purchased to feed the animals, as well as pony and camel rides for the little ones – for only $5 each.
