With the end of school coming up and summertime fast approaching, it seems almost forced to take time to mention a few good things. I mean really, who can truly say they hate summer. Sure the heat gets a bit much and we could do with fewer tornados, but think about all of the camping, swimming, and relaxing you’ll have time for. There are so many things that we can appreciate in our world. Things that we don’t spend enough time thinking about. That being said, let’s take a look at a few examples of some good things that are happening in our world today.
Starting of course with the “almost” end of the school year. Now this one’s mainly in favor of the student perspective but this can be a good thing for parents of children too. Put it this way, with the end of school, you always have a helping hand around the house. But summertime isn’t just a time for helping hands, it’s also a time of relaxing and “recharging” as one could put it. Summertime is the time to go camping, the time to sit around campfires and tell spooky stories. It’s the time of year when you can find some peace and quiet in the midst of the rest of the world. As for students, well, summertime couldn’t come sooner.
Good news for the space enthusiasts out there. NASA has recently made progress in space, their very own rover has achieved the ability to change gas on Mars into oxygen. That in and of itself is, for lack of a better phrase, “very cool”. At the moment, the device can only change small amounts at a time, and it is inhibited by the severe temperatures it experiences. While these limitations are present in current technology, imagine what can happen in the future. Imagine, the possibility of living on Mars, without a spacesuit. Such a thing sounds outlandish, even with the most recent development, but it’s fun to speculate regardless.
In local good news, did you know about third Thursdays? Apparently, this is a common thing, and perhaps I was just in the dark on this one but I’m willing to bet that there are others out there as unknowing as I am. Regardless, Third Thursdays is a sort of monthly festival type thing that occurs in Hutchinson every third Thursday (go figure). It’s loads of fun and an amazing experience for all ages. Personally, I’m a big fan of the music there, and all the booths and festivities gave me nostalgia for the Kansas State Fair. To find out more about Third Thursdays, visit their Facebook page.
Last things, please keep in mind that I cannot include every good thing in this article. There is an incredible number of awesome people doing awesome things. We just aren’t looking for it. Instead of looking at the latest political scandal or listening for the best gossip, take some time to look at the good things that have happened in life. Not just that, but it’s good practice to recognize good things in your own life. How much happier would we be if we simply appreciated ourselves and our lives more. We are important, and there are good things that happen to us. It is simply a matter of perspective.
It comes back to the old saying, “your day is what you make of it”. By paying more attention to the good things in life, perhaps you could make it a good one.
