Commodity Highlight—Corn
While Kansas may be known as a wheat state, corn makes its presence known by occupying millions of acres each year. The crop itself can provide materials from fuel to sugar, and feed for the United States’ animal agriculture industry. Here are the highlights of what corn can, and is doing.
- In 2020, Thomas County planted the most corn acres in the state with roughly 299,000.
- 9.8 percent of corn revenue in the United States comes from Food Science and Industry.
- The No. 1 export partner for U.S. corn in 2019-2020 was Mexico with 571 million bushels transported.
- The United States exported 2,550,000,000 bushels in 2020.
