Wichita Fire Department celebrated 130th Anniversary

The Wichita Fire Department celebrated 130 years of service on Tuesday, August 23. The locations of the five WFD stations are 257 N Hillside, 1010 N. 143rd, 2950 E. 21st N., 6408 Farmview, 2808 N. Webb. Each of Wichita fire stations offered treats and goodies to both children and adults. In 1886, the first Wichita Fire Department was on the southeast corner of Seneca and Douglas which used horse-drawn carts to fight fires. Wichita had become the first all-mechanized fire department in 1918, which was the first in the United States and the second in the world.
