Schools Nationwide Promote Bike Safety

Safe Kids Wichita Area is hosting a bicycle safety event for parents and children of Riverside Leadership Magnet Elementary School to promote biking to school as a safe and fun way to travel and raise awareness about important bike safety information.

Students and their parents will leave the Wichita Art Museum, 1400 Museum Blvd., at 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, and bike to Riverside Leadership Magnet Elementary School, 1001 Porter St.

Event participants will include:

  • Via Christi Health
  • Safe Kids Wichita Area
  • Bell Sports
  • Via Christi
  • Bike Walk Wichita
  • Health & Wellness Coalition
  • Wichita Public Schools
  • Wichita Police Department
  • Wichita Fire Department
  • Sedgwick County EMS
  • Safe Kids Wichita Area

Nearly 250,000 kids ages 19 and under were seen in emergency rooms for bike-related injuries in 2014. But many serious injuries can be prevented by simply wearing a helmet.

Safe Kids is teaming up with local communities, Bell Sports and other partners to help families learn simple things they can do to protect children while biking.
