The Wichita City Council approved the purchase of $7 million worth of new fire trucks. The purchase will replace equipment that is nearing its suggested limit for service. The new equipment will include a commander van with technology upgrades to guide crew on emergency calls, three pumper trucks, two ladder trucks and a light and air unit which includes light for nighttime emergencies and air to firefighter’s breathing mask. The Wichita Fire Department is currently trying to use appropriate equipment to each calls verses the closest unit, in hope to extend the service life of the department’s heavy equipment
