Excitement is brewing! In Norwich, Spring Fling will be April 30 and this will bring the return of our annual car show and the Main Street Drag Races! Norwich is the only town in Kansas to have Main Street Drag Races. With these drag races there will be prize money totaling $1,000.00. There is no question but what this event has created a strong interest far and wide. In the last week, there was an individual from Larned driving a ’36 Cadillac and someone else driving a ’66 GTO from Blackwell, Ok. scouting out the prospects for this exciting day. Channel 12 will be in Norwich on April 30 to record some of the amazing results of these activities.
To make it easier for everyone, registration forms are available online. Check out the Tri-Cities Face book page. Registration for the car show will begin at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning and then there will be many cars of a wide variety of makes and models for everyone to examine. At 1:00 the drag races will begin. Throughout the day there will be numerous activities for all ages and interests. Behind the Christian Church there will be a hot rod swap meet. This will be an opportunity for anyone with an interest in cars to buy, sell, or trade a variety of car parts and automotive memorabilia. Booths for this event are available for $20.00. Inside the Christian Church they will be hosting a bazaar that will offer crafts, treasures, products from home based businesses, and maybe even some garage sale items. Throughout the day Rusty Rierson will be singing and entertaining with music from the 50’s and 60’s. For the younger ones, the barrel train will return to give rides, face painting will be available during the afternoon, and the ever popular inflatables will be set up. At the corner of 42 and Main Street, Cloud Nine will be having horse rides available. Also at the Christian Church, the older crowd can relax and have a massage. For both young and old, there will be a car smash – a good chance to relieve frustrations!
Of course another important part of the day is all of the good food available. The Christian Church will serve breakfast and lunch with some all-time favorites on their menu – biscuits & gravy, hamburgers, and brats. Our local restaurant, Redz, will be offering fried chicken and calf fries throughout the lunch time as well as their regular menu of pizza, sub sandwiches, and salads. Project Prom will be in the Dotzour Center during lunch time serving walking tacos. We will have a BBQ trailer coming from Kingman with their great tasting meats.
Spring is such a great time to get out and visit with old friends and make new ones. An event like the spring fling car show provides us with the opportunities to do so. Fun, food, and entertainment promise to be a great incentive to come to Norwich and enjoy being a part of our great community.
