The Newtown City Commission was presented information form Fire/Ems Chief Scott Metzler and Newton Medical Center President/CEO Val Gleason about the new Community Para-medicines program. The program looked at the number of “super users” ambulance calls and the needs of those people that were not being met. After analyzing information 13 characteristics were found in those “super users” had in common. Patients have been matched with resources in the community such as transportation for doctor appointments, financial assistance and psychological support. Recently the program has starting looking at fall prevention in hopes to cut down on the calls that are answered but emergency responders. This proactive approach is improving efficiency for the local medical providers, but more importantly, it’s improving quality of life for some of Newton’s most vulnerable residents.
