Doug Peterson is the featured speaker at a Cheney Lake Watershed Winter Workshop at noon on Jan. 27. Peterson will speak at the South Hutchinson Community Building at 101 W. Ave C in South Hutchinson. Lunch will be served at noon for the first 40 people. Peterson will speak at approximately 12:30 pm.
Doug Peterson retired from NRCS after 32 years. He worked as a soil health specialist, a grassland specialist and a soil scientist. He is currently a consultant with Understanding Ag, combining his NRCS training with 25 years of experience managing his own 250-head cow/calf herd in Northern Missouri. Though farmers often look at cropland and grassland as separate parts of their operation, Peterson would argue that they are inter-related through livestock. Using a simple approach. Peterson will break down the numbers to analyze the economics of fitting cover crops into our grazing programs.
Sponsors for the event include Cheney Lake Watershed and Green Cover Seeds. For more information contact Howard Miller at 620-727-6546.
