Stubbs, Southwind District team win Kansas 4-H livestock sweepstakes
Annual contest draws 225 Kansas 4-H members
MANHATTAN, Kan. – Calley Stubbs of the Sunflower District topped approximately 225 4-H members from 61 counties to win the Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes, held Aug. 22-23.
The event was hosted virtually by the Kansas State University Department of Animal Sciences and Industry.
Stubbs was named the high individual among those who participated in three activities: livestock judging, meat judging and livestock skillathon. Kansas 4-H members also participated in a livestock quiz bowl.
After Stubbs, the rest of the top ten, listed in order, include Hailey Gillespie, Frontier District; Sadie Marchiano, Southwind District; Aidan Yoho, Southwind District; Damon Higbie, Frontier District; James DeRouchey, Pottawatomie County; Tyler Hommertzheim, Sedgwick County; Jack Habjan, Leavenworth County; Tanner Hommertzheim, Sedgwick County; Preston Dunn, Stafford County.
The Southwind District No. 2 team won the Livestock Sweepstakes Champion Team Award with the best combined performance in livestock judging, livestock skillathon, livestock quiz bowl and meat judging. Teams in the top five, in order, include Frontier District No. 2; Wildcat District No. 1; Sunflower District No. 1; and Pottawatomie County.

The team champions for the meat judging, livestock skillathon and livestock quiz bowl will represent Kansas at their respective national 4-H contest, planned for later this fall.
Like previous years, Kansas will be represented by an all-star team at the national 4-H livestock judging contest in Louisville. Eleven youth were selected to advance to the team selection process, based on their performance in the state livestock judging contest. This will include a series of livestock evaluation workshops and opportunities provided by the K-State livestock judging team.
The Kansas 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes program is also sponsored by the Kansas Pork Association, Kansas Beef Council, Kansas State University College of Agriculture, and AgTech.
The Kansas State University Department of Animal Sciences and Industry serves students, livestock producers and the animal and food industries through teaching, research and education.
