The Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale donated a check for $580,000 to Mennonite Central Committee at its annual meeting May 21 at Buhler Mennonite Church, Buhler.
Matthew Voth, KMRS chair, presented the check to Maynard Knapp, MCC Central States Director, who received the check on MCC’s behalf.
“No other agency has tens of thousands of people gathering together to raise funds for service projects,” said Knapp. “A special fund is set up for urgent needs like the Nepal earthquake work. When donations come in earmarked for a specific need, it must go into that account. That is why MCC Sales are so important to support the (MCC) general budget.”
KMRS is one of over 40 Relief Sales organized to raise funds for MCC in the US and Canada. The donation total is proceeds from Kansas Mennonite Relief Sale, April 17 & 18, and supporting events/donations to KMRS.
