The misbehaved plant, Audrey II, prepares to invade Stage 9 in Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s diabolical and botanical romp, Little Shop of Horrors. Performances will take place April 21 to 23 and April 28 to 30, 2016 at 7:30 pm and at 2:00 pm on April 24 and May 1, 2016 at Stage 9 at 9 South Main in downtown Hutchinson.
Mr. Mushnik, the owner of the run-down Mushnik’s Skid Row Florists, prepares to throw in the towel and close his business. Suddenly, Seymour Krelbourn, one of Skid Row’s many misfits and Mushnik’s employee, stumbles across a new breed of plant and names it after his love and coworker, Audrey. Their luck begins to change mysteriously for the better along with the growth of Audrey II. Three street smart Skid Row denizens, Ronnette, Crystal, and Chiffon, who seem to have all the inside scoop on this new exotic plant, guide us along as Seymour and Audrey’s love blooms. However, Audrey’s abusive sociopathic boyfriend (who happens to be a dentist) and Audrey II, the plant with an insatiable appetite for blood and world domination, provide seemingly insurmountable odds for Audrey and Seymour.
Little Shop of Horrors is another revival for Stage 9’s 100th Anniversary year and is from the creative genius team behind Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. It’s an out-of-this-world musical not to be missed.
