The Hutchinson/Reno Arts & Humanities Council invites the public to a poetry reading to be given by Bill and Tyler Sheldon at the Hutchinson Art Center (405 N. Washington ST) Monday, July 11th at 7:00pm. In addition to sharing the same last name Tyler and Bill are related, Bill, the Elder, Poet Sheldon, Tyler, the Younger, Poet Sheldon. This will mark a historic first for HRAH, a Father and Son presentation.
Bill is known as a poet of place with a passion for the Great Plains and the people this geography produces. Denise Low, former Poet Laureate of Kansas, mentions this attachment in commenting on Bill’s book Rain Comes Riding. “Sheldon is a skilled, smart writer who has much to tell his readers about how to live with good conscience.” Bill lives in Hutchinson with his family and teaches at Hutchinson Community College.
Tyler is a recent graduate of Emporia State University earning an MA in English. At Emporia he taught Composition and received the 2016 Charles E. Walton Essay Award. His poetry has appeared in numerous journals and literary reviews and his first chapbook First Breathes of Arrival was published this May by Oil Hill Press. Tyler is married to artist Alex Arceneaux, and will be attending McNeese State in the fall to work on a MFA in Creative Writing.
The program is free and the public is welcome to attend. This event is sponsored by the Hutchinson/Reno Arts and Humanities Council in partnership with the Hutchinson Art Center. For more information call 620-662-1280 or e-mail [email protected].
