The Hesston City Council took steps to create a land bank at their regular scheduled meeting on January 9. The land bank would allow the city to own property that is for sale, without having to pay taxes on those properties. A land bank board would be made up of city council members and the city clerk, who would be a nonvoting member. The properties in the land bank would be available for public sale, but the board would not be obligated to take a low price to sell the property.
