Bison: Masters of the Plains, a traveling exhibit, opens July 2, at the Rice County Historical Society’s Coronado Quivira Museum. The exhibit can be seen until August 26, 2021. The exhibit explores the significance of the bison from the time of the Plains Indian hunters to the entrepreneurial industrialists/buffalo hunters, to conservationists, and to today’s producers and enthusiasts.
The Bison exhibit originated as an initiative of the National Endowment for the Humanities and has been refurbished by the Kauffman Museum, the National Buffalo Museum, and the National Buffalo Foundation to fully tell the story of the bison and the bison industry today.
Several presentations about the bison are currently being scheduled. One will address the relationship of the bison and the Plains Indians. A second presentation will focus on the bison industry today.
