The family of the 34th President Dwight D. Eisenhower have yielded a compromise to the design of a memorial that congress approved in 1999. The family had objected to the original designs but negotiations between those involved the family has dropped their objections to the design. The design now will have more emphasis on Eisenhower’s home state and will represent the site of the D-Day invasion in Normandy, France, as it exists today. It is hoped that the memorial in Washington D.C. is complete by 2019.
