When this month began, I knew there was a lot going on, the 2nd with our
trip to Abilene. The 13th we were to drive to a Lutheran Church in the country for a
ladies salad supper, and the 17th, John took me to Wichita to celebrate my most
recent birthday. It has certainly made this month one to remember as we did a lot of
April traveling!
As usual, I had us starting out earlier to our meeting, just in case we got lost.
Again there were weather forecasts of rain and possible hail as we started out on the
new Highway 61 on our way to Commanche Rd, on this side of Groveland. As we
traveled down that road about fifteen miles, it was fun to see the countryside in that
area of Kansas, each mile road had a street sign, something we certainly didn’t have
as I was growing up.
We passed through other highways, including I35 until we reached our
graveled road leading to the church. I was glad we arrived at just the right time. We
found out later the building had been there for over 100 years ( I hope I got that
right!} and there had once been a church school located there also.
Again the ladies were very welcoming and they seated John and me at one of
their round tables. We enjoyed the ladies very much and we all talked about our
lives and how God has seen us through the good and bad times.
It was interesting that there were not only ladies my age, but the younger
ones as well. They told us about the different things coming up the next week end
where they had to cook and serve the meals. It made me remember our few years on
the farm when I was a girl and the women did much of the cooking. Their salad
supper was one of the best we have ever seen!
The ladies were attentive as I told them the story of my life and how I came
to know the Lord and how He has been our guiding light in our business and
marriage. They readily agreed with me that we are going through tremulous days in
our country and because time is getting short, should be ready at all times to tell
others about Christ. First, however, we must be sure we are in the right relationship
with God since He is our Creator and He is the only one who knows all things.
Afterwards, it was such a delight to exchange bits and pieces of our lives with
each other. I found out that the lady who had invited me, Irma, had attended high
school in Haven and graduated the same year as I had from Buhler. Our memories
included things in life that came from that era of time. For you who are younger,
there was a whole different life style in our day that was both simple and honest.
Most people were content to be who they were made to be and were content…but
then, that’s another story.
In telling my life adventures, I love to liken it to all the different colors of the
rainbow. It’s interesting to remember even the black hues that entered my life and
brought me to a strong desire to know all about the being who made me and has
invited all of us to a perfect home in heaven when we leave this world. It is our own
decision as God never makes us do anything.
Anyways, life goes on and on Friday I became a year older, and a little more
tired. I have found out that’s all right. As we become older, we understand all the
twists and turns that God allows in our life…and that’s to be expected, that is how
we learn and in so doing, understand more how He is leading us on our way…but
only if we have accepted Him into our life and we let Him lead!
At any rate, my dear husband gave me a birthday to remember! It started
with flowers and the most beautiful birthday card. We then drove to Newton for a
little shopping, on to The Cracker Barrel, my favorite restaurant, and then on to
Wichita for a little more of what brings joy to every woman…shopping!
It will be an exciting time to realize when John and I are in heaven…because
God made it to be a perfect place. It will be a real joy to visit with all the wonderful
people we have met on this earth and we can share with each other.
It is then we will have weathered all the “storms of Life” and enjoy the
heavenly comfort of home. Just think, it will be truly a golden time with perfect
weather and there will no more traveling from Heaven!
