Hey, you, you probably read the title to this article and immediately thought “good news!? Bah, yeah right!” Honestly, I can’t blame you, for thinking that. Things in the modern world have escalated far beyond what we thought was possible. The Russia-Ukraine conflict has quite literally blown up all over social media, it’s hard to believe that it only started a week or so ago. Already in that short time span, so much destruction has occurred. With the continuous bombing of various locations by Russia, it seems that Ukraine has an insurmountable conflict to rise against. Yet, there they stand. The spirits of the Ukrainian people have not wavered.
Through the terror and the subjugation, they stand tall, as good men and women of the past have done against terrible oppression. That in and of itself is good news. Furthermore, while there is still great trouble in the world, we cannot dwell on it forever, lest we fall into sad tidings. Rather, we must remember that there are still good things happening in our society. Hence, the topic of discussion; good news!
First of all, mentioning the topic that everyone is talking about, Ukraine. As most of you know already, President Zelensky recently made a passionate plea to join the European Union several days ago. The status of that membership is pending, and we can only hope that it will go through as soon as possible. It’s also important to remember that the world stands with Ukraine.
Everywhere you turn you see pro-Ukraine movements taking place. I mean, at the very start of this situation, the world itself levied an incredible amount of sanctions on Russia itself, with more to come from independent organizations, in hopes of bringing down the economic value.
As of March 3rd, the US dollar was worth 109.659 Russian Rubles. That’s not even half of it.
International hacking organizations supposedly took down Russia’s access to their own spy satellites, the truth behind this is still pending. But it just goes to show how dedicated the world is to Ukraine’s fight for their homeland. As the locals there would say, “Slava Ukraini!” and let’s hope conflict ceases as soon as possible for the wartorn civilians.
For those of you who have mixed emotions about the production of wind turbines, you should get to unmixing. Because a certain few nations have begun solving a couple of the challenges they present. For those of you who don’t know the estimated lifespan of blades on a wind turbine is 20 years. According to the US Gov. Databases, there are more than 70,800 wind turbines in the US. That’s an incredible amount of non-biodegradable material that has to be gotten rid of every 20 years. The Re-Wind Network is a global organization that actively works to find ways to reuse old wind blades to prevent unnecessary waste and find ways they did. More recently, the organization has started the project of reusing blades to make bridges for people, and other services alike. Honestly, we could probably learn to take a page out of their book. Those 70 thousand windmills won’t recycle themselves.
With that being said, just keep in mind that I’ve barely scratched the surface of good news in the world today. Good news can be difficult to find when so many people cover the stories of terror and various bad things, but it is out there. Masks are becoming more scarce, people are helping one another, and in the face of adversity, we are united. To be fair the world is broken, that is more evident now than before.
