While many horse groups have concluded activities for the year, the Blackjack Saddle Club has two major events set for the next couple of weeks, according to Vicki Smith, president.
A fun show has been set for Sunday, Oct. 25, and an “open arena” session for enjoyment and practice is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 7, Smith said.
Both are planned at Cico Park in Manhattan, beginning at 10 o’clock, and are open to the public.
Rhonda Machin is the club’s chairperson for children-under-10 activities and has been instrumental in coordinating the fun show.
She said events are to include a costume contest, ride-a-buck, pumpkin-in-spoon, Dead Man Out musical poles, pumpkin target toss, Weaving Pumpkin Race like keg bending, Headless Horseman Race with jumps, Pirate Flags, barrel racing, Bone Race like the flag race, jackpot barrel racing, Simon Says, and a decorated/carved pumpkin contest.
“Bring an already carved or decorated pumpkin for the pumpkin contest, and don’t forget your costumes for the costume contest. Prizes and surprises will be given out,” Machin invited.
“ Bring your horse out and ride and practice November 7,” Smith welcomed “It would be great for some of the more experienced people to come out and help the not-so-experienced.”
Although no restroom facilities or public address system are to be available, a $5 donation, per horse, is being requested to cover arena rental, with any additional receipts above expenses going into the children-under-10 prize fund, Smith informed.
“Bring a sack lunch, take a break and kickback with other horse people,” Smith exclaimed.
“Black Jack Saddle Club is dedicated to our members and all people interested in horses. We strive to make each event a pleasant and safe environment for all participants,” Smith emphasized.
