There comes a point in time when folks want to travel. Or rather, there comes a time where they want to get out of the house. For me, this time was in the past several weeks, when I started to feel the searing hot Kansas summers. The only thought in my head when I stepped outside that day was how quickly could I get the AC unit up and running. Now, maybe I’m not being fair, there are quite a few of you out there who do like this weather. Afterall, it does make for excellent beach weather. Be that as it may, summertime is not only the time for hot weather, it is also the time for travel. With kids home from school and whatnot, it makes the perfect opportunity for camping and road trips. That being said, let’s take a look at some other things that have transpired in the world of travel, as well as some travel ideas.
Starting off with a news update, President Biden and Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the UK supposedly talked about some COVID-19 travel changes before the Group of Seven summit in Cornwall, England. Now, I know what you’re thinking, “how does travel to the UK affect me?”. Well, since the beginning of quarantine the UK has had some of the strictest travel restrictions out of many other nations. If they begin relaxing their restrictions it’s possible that this will cause a ripple effect among other nations, namely, Canada. Perhaps you’ll be able to travel outside of the US before summer’s end. Although, I will say, try not to get your hopes up too high, democracy works slowly.
In other news, recent research suggests that many of the COVID vaccines work against multiple strains of the virus. Meaning that, hopefully, one vaccination will fight against any coronavirus variants of the future. Now, what does this mean for travel? Well it means that world leaders can rest easy when considering future events. No longer do they have to worry about the potential of another outbreak of a more deadly strain. In some cases, it might even mean a swifter return to normalcy. For vaccinated individuals, the chance of getting the virus is significantly lowered, and if the vaccine works on all strains, well, we don’t have much to worry about at all.
Now, we all know that harvest is right around the corner, (if you haven’t started already), so obviously you won’t be taking any major trips anytime soon. But keep in mind that you don’t have to have an extravagant adventure or roadtrip to get out of the house. For those of you who prefer the simple life, camping is the way to go. I’m talking campfires, fishing, and whatever the heck Dad concocts for breakfast. (Just kidding Dad, you’re the best). During this upcoming farming season I would advise you to take the time to relax every now and then. Take the family up to the lake for a weekend when the ground gets tough, or too wet, or has any one of the numerous problems that might arise. Getting out of the house can work wonders for the stress of life.
There are endless possibilities for what you can do to get away from life, and adulting. Travel is just one of them. It is a good one, but there are other ways to enjoy your time on this earth. Overall, just go have fun, we’ve lived through stressful times, you can afford to have some peace even if it’s just for a moment.
