Men’s and Women’s Tennis Ranked in Final ITA National Polls

The men’s and women’s tennis team ended the season in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Rankings, announced on May 27. The men’s team appears in the poll for the second straight poll moving up to No. 34. The women’s team ranks No. 46 in the top 50.

The Jets were ranked No. 45 in the previous poll, their first time ever in the national rankings. NU advanced to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament for the first time in program history. In the regional tournament, NU fell, 5-2, to No. 19 Cameron. The Jets finished as the runner up in the Heartland Conference Tournament, going down by a close 5-3 decision to No. 24 St. Edward’s in the championship match. For the season, the Jets totaled a 17-11 overall record.

In the women’s poll, the Jets rank No. 46. It’s the fourth straight poll NU has been ranked. NU moved into the national rankings for the first time on Feb. 25 at No. 46. In the next rankings on March 25, the Jets held on to the No. 46 spot. NU moved up to its highest ranking ever on April 29 at No. 44. The Jets have been ranked in four of the five polls this season, their first four national rankings in school history.

The Lady Jets finished the season with a record of 18-5 and advanced to the Heartland Conference Tournament. NU started 13-0 on the season before their first loss. All five losses were to nationally ranked opponents.

The men were ranked No. 5 in the South Central Region. Eduardo Santos moved to No. 7 in singles, and Alejandro Gonzalez moved to No. 10 in singles. Santos and Gonzalez rank No. 4 in doubles teams.

The women’s team finished ranked No. 6 in the South Central Region. Kate Bugayenko finished at No. 18 in singles, andLisa Pleskan and Carissa Villaflor rank No. 8 in doubles teams.
