Now Comes the Fun Part!
You’ve just taken hunter education. Congratulations! Colorado Parks and Wildlife knows that hunters need to develop knowledge and skills to be successful. But for a new hunter, confidence is just as important.
That’s why CPW has partnered with Pheasants Forever to develop the Novice Hunter Program.
NHP students spend a full day with CPW staff and volunteers learning about pheasant hunting strategies, laws, regulations and how to safely handle shotguns in the field. Students will also receive instruction in shotgun shooting at a private trap range.
Later in the fall, students can sign up for mentored dove and pheasant hunts led by CPW staff and trained volunteers – and they can hunt on their own in areas leased just for the program.
To be eligible, students must be at least 12 years old and have successfully completed a CPW hunter education course on or after Jan. 1, 2012. The program is free but space is limited. Register online for these classes and other outreach events.
