The spring weather in Kansas has arrived, at least most of the days, in the awakening of the earth, the sky and the gentle (?) breezes of the season. Along with it comes the greening of the trees, the growing of the grass, John’s planting of the garden and my desire to accomplish some real spring-cleaning.
Of course, along with all the physical business, comes other doings, showers, writer’s meetings, mother-daughter teas, weddings, and of course the farmer’s market. I will share a few of mine.
Some close friends of our daughter Judy had a fantastic bridal shower for our future grand daughter on Saturday and we had a wonderful time. They are a group of ladies that have bonded into a group during the last several years and they enjoy each others company to the nth degree. They are there for each other in good times and bad and help each other out in many ways.
A couple or more weeks ago, our Kansas Authors Club met and we took in three new members. It was interesting to find out that we now have three members who are retired from the police force, sheriff’s offices and the reformatory. These people want to write about their life’s happenings and I’m sure it will be doubly interesting.
Our state writer’s contest is about “Kansas Twisters,” and one of the couples that attended, told us about the Hoisington Tornado that took their farm several years ago. They had a lot to share! We also wrote some tongue twisters and some of them were quite good. It is truly one of life’s joys to be together with other writers because we understand each other.
We are always looking for new members and if you are interested you can email or call me. Our next meeting will be at the Great Bend Library on August 8.
Our Young at Heart Ministries (people over 55) had a program this last week. I was thrilled so many of the attendees were willing to bring a number on the program, many of them even willing to give their testimony or tell what God has done for them. It seems that as one gets older, we lose our self-consciousness and we realize what is really important, especially in the tumultuous days our country is going through.
One of our writer members, Bob, gave an interesting TV show about things people learn at our Young at Heart Ministries program. Another lady brought some humor when she read a poem about the fallacies of old age. Some told about their Christian experiences and how God helped them to understand.
Anyone over age 55 who enjoys singing the old hymns and hearing different pastors of our community, are always invited to attend our meetings on Thursday morning from 10-11:15, at the Delos Smith Center.
This week I will have the pleasure of speaking at a Mother-Daughter Tea at the Buhler Sunshine Home. Since many of the faces will be familiar to me, it will be fun to share with them some of my life adventures. That is, even though I am to go as the mother of my sister in law who is four years older than I am! Afterwards, I will take hubby out for supper since it is his birthday on May 7.
As I turned on the television this afternoon, we again heard about something that had just happened in Baltimore. If it had been true, I could see where this could have been the straw to break the camel’s back in that city that has been plagued with problems of late. Finally, the real truth came out and peace reigned again. These are certainly the days to be praying for the United States as well as for the world. If ever there is a time to pray, it is now so let’s all make sure that we are on praying ground. As we enjoy the beautiful weather of spring time, let us enjoy the peace that only God can give! Have a wonderful Spring even though it’s busy!
