McPHERSON EXHIBITS

McPherson Museum & Arts Foundation, 1111 E. Kansas Ave. Museum hours: Monday-Friday: 1 p.m.-5 p.m. / Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Don’t miss the McPherson Globe Refiners exhibit documenting the first gold medal basketball team awarded in Olympic history and the Museum’s permanent “hands-on” model train exhibit. 620-241-8464.

McPherson Public Library, 214 W. Marlin, 620-245-2570. Library hours: Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-8 p.m. / Friday: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. / Saturday: 1 p.m.- 5 p.m. / Sunday: 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Currently on display in the Library’s gallery, through December 20th, is the work of Abilene artist Andrea Fuhrman.

One Door North, The Gallery of The Clayworks, 107 N. Main. 620-504-6550 An entrepreneurial creation of Disability Supports of the Great Plains, offering individuals with disabilities the chance to explore their own unique creativity and artistic expression using different media – such as clay, painting, and drawing.

Canton Stars and Stripes Military Museum, 104 W. Allen, in Canton. Exhibits include memorabilia from all military branches. Open for all Military and Patriotic Holidays or by appointment. 620-628-4484

Galva Historical Museum, 204 S. Main, in Galva. Documenting Galva’s history as well as surrounding country schools, displays of past businesses, and information regarding the Cherokee and Santa Fe Trail. Hours: 1st Sunday: 2 p.m.-4 p.m.; 2nd Saturday: 10 a.m.-noon; 3rd Thursday: 7 p.m.-9 p.m., or by appointment. 620-654-3343

Inman Museum, 101 N. Main, in Inman. Sunday 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m., or by appointment. 620-585-6756 or 620-585-6477. The museum has a life-size village square with six buildings constructed with 100-year-old materials, a restored train deport complete with a caboose, and a full early prairie homestead. www.inmanmuseum.com.

Kansas Motorcycle Museum, 120 N. Washington, in Marquette. Hours: Monday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.785-546-2449 or www.ksmotorcyclemuseum.org. Three galleries that are home to over 100 vintage and rare motorcycles of various makes and models, motorcycle racing memorabilia, photos, clothing, trophies, and posters.

2021 EVENTS CALENDAR

Friday, October 15th and Saturday, October 16th
Paranormal Investigation- at the McPherson Museum, 1111 E. Kansas Ave. Learn about the past of the museum’s property and various artifacts as you investigate paranormal phenomena in high-activity areas not open to the public, led by Spirit Hunters Paranormal Society based out of Wichita. Saturday, October 16th
When Pigs Fly- 7 a.m.-2 p.m. at the McPherson Airport, 1000 S. Hwy. 81 Bypass. Activities include: 7 a.m.-9 a.m. – Scout troop breakfast & fly-in / 9 a.m.-2 p.m. – Young Eagle plane rides for kids 8-17 / 11 a.m.-1 p.m. – food trucks and music by the Mood Swings / K-State Skydivers with tandem jumps / vintage airplanes & cars will be on display.

3-On-3 Basketball Tournament- 9 a.m. at the Marquette Elementary Gym, 310 N. Swedonia St. in Marquette. Sponsored by the Marquette Recreation Commission. Old Farts Drag Main- 8 p.m. Downtown McPherson. This will be the last one for this year. Donations for the McPherson Animal shelter and the Humane Society will be collected at that time. Let’s help our furry friends get through another winter.

Monday, October 18th
Public Tram Tour- 10 a.m. at the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, 2565 Pueblo Road, Canton. A forty-five minute tour of the Kansas prairie. Reservations required three days prior to the event. Thursday, October 21st
Family Night- 5 p.m. at the McPherson American Legion, 401 N. Main. Come get a hamburger or hot dog, fries, drink, and dessert for the low price of $5. Proceeds from Family Night will benefit the McPherson County 4-H.

McPherson County Republicans “Meet and Greet”- 7 p.m. at the McPherson Senior Center, 112 E. Euclid. State Senator Rick Wilborn and State Representatives Stephen Owens and Steven Johnson will share their vision and updates. Everyone is welcome.

Friday, October 22nd
Crawl for Cancer- 4 p.m.-8:30 p.m. A fundraiser to benefit Women and Children Combating Cancer in McPherson County. 5 downtown locations, prizes, and FUN! Start at any of the participating locations (Tres Amigos, Ristorante Italiano di Famiglia, the American Legion, Hank’s Place, or Easy) at any time. The evening will end at Hank’s Place at 8:30 p.m. with prizes! Tickets ($25 per person) are available at MCCU, 1999 S. Main. Participants must be 21 years of age. McPherson Community Mental Health Event- 6:30 p.m. McPherson Community Building, 122 E. Marlin. Second night of a two-part series. The focus of the evening will be on the topic of suicide. Sponsored by Kindred Hospice, this Virtual Dementia Tour is designed to help participants gain a better understanding of the emotional and physical needs of someone with dementia. Goods to Go Craft & Vendor Show and Foodapalooza- in the Inman Community Building in Inman. Get an early start on your Christmas shopping list! Check out the super fun and crafty items for sale by area crafters and businesses. And don’t miss the opportunity to get something yummy to eat at the food trucks!
Catapult- 7:30 p.m. at the McPherson Opera House, 219 S. Main. Catapult is an America’s Got Talent finalist from Season 8. This magical production features incredible dancers who work behind a screen to create shadow silhouettes of shapes from the world around us. Thursday, November 11th
Veteran’s Day Celebration- 8 a.m-10 a.m. – free breakfast for Veterans and their guest at the American Legion, 401 N. Main, hosted by Kindred Hospice. Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. in Downtown McPherson. A ceremony will be held at the Park Department Building at 11 a.m. and will be carried live by the McPherson radio station.

Honoring Veterans- 12:30 p.m.-2:30 p.m. at the McPherson Senior Center, 112 E. Euclid. Hosted by Hospice & HomeCare of Reno/McPherson County to show appreciation of our Veterans and their service to our country. Veterans and a guest can enjoy a free root beer float treat!

Thursday, November 11th – Saturday, November 13th
“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”- 7:30 p.m. at McPherson College, 1600 E. Euclid in Mingenback Theater and Brown Auditorium. This popular children’s story will be performed by MC Theatre Department and is a part of the college’s Children’s Theater initiative with USD 418 Elementary Schools.
