HERE IS YOUR KANSAS HAY MARKET REPORT FOR THE WEEK ENDING JUNE 1ST. . .
Demand is low and trade activity is slow although there have been a few more loads traded this past week. Producers continue planting, swathing, and spraying across the state. New crop pricing is still slow to come in, as folks try to clear their barns of last season’s hay. Precipitation fell across much of the region last week, which was enough to prevent further degradation but not enough to warrant large improvements. Severe drought (D2) was improved in south-central Kansas, while improvements to moderate drought (D1) and abnormal dryness (D0) were made in northern Kansas and southeast Nebraska. The categorical percent area for abnormally dry conditions (D0) decreased to 18%, moderate drought (D1) decreased to 20%, severe drought (D2) decreased to just under 26%, extreme drought (D3) decreased to less than a half of a percent and no exceptional drought (D4) was recorded. **Prices below reflect the average price. Southwest Kansas
Demand low. Trade activity is slow to moderate. Dairy alfalfa prices are steady to $0.05 lower. Grinding alfalfa price steady to $5.00 higher, ground and delivered alfalfa price mostly steady. Alfalfa: Dairy, $1.30-$1.40/point RFV. Good, Stock or Dry Cow none reported. Fair/good, old crop grinding alfalfa, large rounds $110.00-$120.00, large square 3×4’s and 4×4’s $110.00-$120.00. Ground and delivered locally to feed lots and dairies $160.00-$175.00 (up 5). Teff: small squares $9.00-$10.00/bale; Grass hay: CRP large rounds, 75.00-80.00 per bale. South Central Kansas
Demand low. Trade activity is slow. Dairy alfalfa prices steady. Grinding alfalfa mostly steady, alfalfa pellet price steady to $5.00 lower; Ground and delivered price 10.00 lower.
